What is Academic Fresh Start?

Your one-time grades don't have to count against you. If you lot're a Texas resident and use for admission to Texas public colleges or universities equally an undergraduate, you may be able to brainstorm a new course of study with a clear academic record.

Text of the Statute

Sec. 51.931. RIGHT TO AN ACADEMIC FRESH START. (a) This department applies to any public institution of higher pedagogy as defined in Department 61.003 of this lawmaking.

(b) Unless otherwise prohibited by law, a resident of this land is entitled to utilize for admission to and enroll equally an undergraduate pupil in whatever public institution of higher educational activity nether this department.

(c) If an applicant elects to seek admission under this department, a public institution of higher education, in because the applicant for access, shall non consider bookish course credits or grades earned by the applicant 10 or more years prior to the starting engagement of the semester in which the applicant seeks to enroll. An applicant who makes the election to apply under this section and is admitted as a student may not receive any form credit for courses undertaken 10 or more years prior to enrollment under this section.

(d) If a student who enrolls nether this section completes a prescribed class of study, earns a baccalaureate degree, and applies for access to a postgraduate or professional program offered by a public institution of higher education, the establishment, in because the applicant for access into the postgraduate or professional programme, shall consider only the grade signal boilerplate of the applicant established past the form work completed afterward enrollment under this section, along with any other criteria the establishment uses in evaluating applicants for admission into the postgraduate or professional person programme.
